Unable to write to shared folder or use sudo thunar or sudo pcmanfm-qt

I have an attached directory and should be able to write to it, but I can’t.

I can’t write to it with sudo nano when trying to save a file.

I also can’t run sudo pcmanfm-qt because I get an error about the display. I prefer the previous interface a lot, this new LXCE looks nice but it’s causing problems compared to XFCE.

So I can’t copy the file contents out, I can’t save the contents to an attached directory.

This is difficult.

I also can’t run sudo thunar as a workaround.

What virtualizer are you using (presumably KVM or VirtualBox)? If you’re using KVM, which mechanism did you use to set up folder sharing? The symptoms you’re describing sound like you’re using KVM with virtio-9p folder sharing, but didn’t make the shared directory world-writable on the host. (See: Whonix for KVM)
