No sudo on terminal allowed in new whonix version?

after 1-2 years of pause I am back at whonix and now it doesn’t have option like it had before for running root from terminal

for installing apps and doing updates and so on

i am runing whonix in persistance mode, maybe in some other mode is possible ?

You gotta reboot into SYSMAINT User | Persistence Mode. There has been
a split between the regular user account and a new sysmaint account.
Sysmaint is allowed to use sudo, the normal user account is not
allowed to use sudo, from Whonix-18 on.

Technically, these changes are from Whonix 17 on, as long as you are installing a NEW template with the latest version of whonix 17 from Qubes Template Manager. If you are just updating from an earlier version of whonix-17 (without the sysmaint user), then these user account changes won’t be made in the update for the sake of protecting your copy of Whonix 17 from breakage. Again, installing a NEW whonix 17 Template VM will make these user account changes, and upgrading a Whonix 17 Template will NOT make these changes.
