Wikipedia Page corrections

Its a small thing, but whoever wrote the whonix wikipedia page neglected to mention the other hypervisors it supports besides VirtualBox, also it should mention that Whonix can technically support all the hardware architectures Debian can if compiled for them.

I would have edited the page myself, but in Wikipedia doesn’t deal with anonymous editors.

“On startup, each VM runs a check to ensure that the software is up to date, and that the date and time are set correctly.”

time is not exactly set correctly

“The Web browser preinstalled in the Workstation VM”

Not anymore

“It is possible for users to force the Workstation to be partly or wholly amnesic by manually resetting it to old states after use, although the developer does not suggest this”

Needs explanation why not.

Moved to Website section of the forum.

There’s nothing we can do to edit the wikipedia. It needs to be edited by people not part of the project, based on primary sources (not our website).

Nonetheless, any feedback we may have on the current state of the article can be listed in this thread.

When researching content for Kicksecure i noticed this snipet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security-focused_operating_system

This is a list of operating systems specifically focused on security. General-purpose operating systems may be secure in practice, without being specifically “security-focused”.

Looking further down the page Whonix is the only OS listed as an General-purpose operating systems. This might lead peopele to believe Whonix is not secure?

Yes. Wikipedia might object to that. Can’t start editing before figuring that out.

Dunno about that.

A post was split to a new topic: Whonix Wiki wiki/Kicksecure/Debian Edit Issues

As per Wikipedia’s policy it is crucially important:

  • that Wikipedia isn’t edited by people affiliated with the Whonix project. Only independent people are allowed to edit Wikipedia. This is of course a generic rule and unspecific to Whonix.
  • that other Wikipedia rules are adhered.

Doing otherwise could do more harm than good.

Therefore I think it’s best for Whonix to stay out of the discussion and lock this forum thread.

I guess I could at least post my opinions here and might consider if there’s need for it.
But generally Whonix must avoid providing any kind of guidance.

This might not sound as welcoming as I wish but that’s due to the circumstances.

One thing I can clearly state:
I don’t have and never had USA citizenship. I cannot imagine that there is any reliable source claiming otherwise.
