Whonix offers you the most secure way to surf the web

Whonix is a desktop operating system designed for advanced security and privacy. It realistically addresses attacks while maintaining usability. It makes online anonymity possible via fail-safe, automatic, and desktop-wide use of the Tor network. A heavily reconfigured Debian base is run inside multiple virtual machines, providing a substantial layer of protection from malware and IP leaks. Hi @ego

When you have time, do you mind making (cut and pasting) these changes to the main (new) landing page as previously agreed with Patrick in the Long Wiki Edits thread?

http://forums.kkkkkkkkkk63ava6.onion/t/long-wiki-edits-thread/3477/12

Thanks

Thanks.

I realize the only thing I don’t like about my suggested edits is this:

Whonix: A High Security Method of Surfing the Internet.

Maybe that emphasizes security too much (over privacy). Not sure whether “of” is the best fit in that title either.

Good day,

Thank you very much for the suggestions, are a great improvement which somehow flew under my Radar up until now (sorry), has now been included. Could someone move it to /WWW with WhonixBot?

Have a nice day,

Ego

(No way anyone could know at this point…)

https://github.com/Whonix/www is whonix.org server → github only. We
don’t fetch and merge from that repository (yet…).

But indeed. The in https://github.com/Whonix/Whonix-Website have to be
manually added to whonix.org now.

Now added.

Hi Ego

That looks great on the new home page! Thanks for those changes. A couple of issues.

1) I think you missed this edit though (the main text, not the title which was changed):

The original version is a bit awkward e.g. 1st and 2nd lines both starting with “It”; 5th line need to be separated into two and reworded for clarity etc.

2) FAQ

Since that is a dead link on the new home page, and the current Whonix FAQ needs a bit of editing →

http://kkkkkkkkkk63ava6.onion/wiki/FAQ

Shall I start a new thread here about it, or just edit it for linking purposes?

I’m not sure some of that stuff in the FAQ is actually relevant to many users, or it will not be in the future e.g. PAE crashes, Whonix being 32-bit (fixed next release), “patches welcome”, “patches required” etc. as there are hardly any forums posts about the above.

This suggests the FAQ be split ala Qubes.org into:

  • User FAQ
  • Developer FAQ

Patches etc belong in the latter category.

Also, as opposed to a huge blob of bullet points, ideally the FAQ will separate out issues by category e.g. “Whonix-Gateway”, “Alternative Operating Systems”, “Tor Browser”, “Possible Compromise”, “Whonix Development Scheme” etc.

It’s user-unfriendly at the moment.

No random stuff should be put into the FAQ indeed. Actually that FAQ the we currently have should be shortened. Was a bad habit to add stuff there that does not fit elsewhere.

The current FAQ could be moved to VFAQ (virtual FAQ) perhaps, where random stuff goes that is good to know, that is not really asked, but fits well into such useful-to-know list?

I am all for “rebooting” the FAQ. And then filling it with actual frequently asked questions. The other stuff could be moved elsewhere (VFAQ or else).

The split idea into user and developer FAQ is also a very good one.

Good day,

Has been changed. Must have missed that. Sorry.

The FAQ in the Whonix-Website repositroy is not really a thing that should exist. In fact I’m sorry that I didn’t clarify that properly but the usable website is always stored in “Egobits1.github.io”. The other ones are, as stated in the Website thread just unfinished bits and pieces of code not intended for use. Especially because that FAQ idea will not be used, instead I’m rewriting everything (again) to be used with Weblate since that is finally something that works without JS and (contrary to my solutions via PHP) isn’t going to grill any server I was able to test my implementations with once there are more then three people accessing the site…

Sorry @Patrick for my lack of communication on that part. Could we perhaps roll back/over to the EgoBits1 version?

Have a nice day,

Ego

No problem, I’ve been very busy last days as well.

Could you please push the current last stable code to git?

Could we perhaps roll back/over to the EgoBits1 version?

Could you update https://github.com/Whonix/Whonix-Website please? Then I’ll add it to whonix.org server.

Btw please merge this one.

Good day,

Has been merged and may be found here: GitHub - EgoBits1/EgoBits1.github.io: Attempts to create a new Homepage for Whonix.

Have a nice day,

Just now greped the repo. Still has newsletter and faq. Could you remove (or fix somehow) these please?

Good day,

Sorry to ask, but where? It doesn’t appear anywhere in the master branch of the repository for me.

Have a nice day,

Ego

Right. Sorry, I looked at https://github.com/Whonix/Whonix-Website. Even though I merged and git diff (--stat) ego/master did not show a diff, there still was one. Somehow that repo was wrecked. Deleted, cloned again.

Now fixed on whonix.org.

@Ego could you please in future commit changes of the Whonix stable production website version to https://github.com/Whonix/Whonix-Website master branch directly?

(Gave you global Whonix github write access.)

That would help so @JasonJAyalaP could fetch from there as well without having to tell him "oh, but well, check @Ego’s personal repo as well, it might be ahead […].

@fortasse do you think it would be alright to accept pull requests for https://github.com/Whonix/www and then git fetch, diff and merge them directly on whonix.org server?

(At the moment https://github.com/Whonix/www is used in one direction whonix.org server → https://github.com/Whonix/www only.)

Good day,

Will do.

Have a nice day,

Ego
