Hello, using Kicksecure with Whonix.
I would like to keep all my data on exernal devices (USB) and not on a Host OS.
I read on File Transfer - Whonix that you should use a Shared Folder.
What are secure possibilities if I do not want to place files from my USB on the Host persistantly?
Can I use the USB device as shared folder?
I am confused by your question. There is documentation at http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbeyds25rbsgr73tbfpqpt4a6vjwsyd.onion/wiki/File_Transfer#Add_a_USB_Device_to_VirtualBox for using a USB device for virtualbox. Is that not suitable for your purposes?
Using a shared folder with your host machine is more secure, so it is recommended for this purpose.
If your usb device is an external hard drive, you can install a linux distribution on that hard drive. Then when you turn on your computer, you can go into your BIOS and boot up from that external hard drive instead of your internal hard drive. And then you can use that as your host system, instead of the host on your main desktop. And you can use a shared folder to move files from the whonix workstation to the the host for that external hard drive. That way, the files never touch your main hard drive.
Please excuse the confusion.
I was not sure if there is another alternative which is recommended but makes it possible to access USB directly.
Thank you that helps me a lot! And thank you @Patrick
Is the specific risk that a malicious Whonix-Workstation could access USB data directly or the other way?
