Whonix 9 Wallpaper
Guys, why Whonix not a member of Internet Defence League no more?
Is it associated with some license agreements?
Nothing changed. There isn’t much involved. You just put “Whonix is a member of the Internet Defense League (http://internetdefenseleague.org/).” on your homepage and that’s about it. Can be found here:
Whonix ™ - Anonymous Operating System

Good to hear

Is fortasse happy with homosexualobster’s design or should we ask user thelasttime if he has any ideas for the wallpaper?

homosexualobster, fortasse just nominated you to pick wallpapers for Whonix 9.

If homosexualobster isn’t active anymore, next one in list to pick wallpaper would be Jason.

I went searchin’ the web, and I found something I like. CC licensed.

For workstation:

For gateway, same thing minus the debian logo:

Damn it. Need to veto here. While this may be legal by license, I am quite sure Debian developers will feel offended by not making it absolutely clear, that Whonix isn’t affiliated Debian.

Can you get one without any symbols by third parties please? I am really sorry for not mentioning this!

There is this wallpaper I really like thats inspired by cypherpunk movement. It has a similar chroma to the ones you’re discussing now with no one’s trademark on it.

 • We need an explicit statement of authorship and license. Even if no one claims for copyright. Things being copyrighted is the default, unless a Free license is declared.
 • I am not sure the star has any implication to communism.
 • In doubt (any symbols such as the star) we could also blog about the intention to use that wallpaper to get some feedback.
 • Otherwise I wouldn’t mind. You’re on the list now to decide a later release wallpaper(s), see below.

By the way, here is the updated vague list who will decide which wallpaper and when for discussion:

 • homosexualobster (Nominated by fortasse.) comes somewhere early.
 • Whonix 9 would be Jason (endless stream of creative consulting, docs, and more).
 • Whonix 10 Occq (testing build doc, forum activity, and more)
 • Whonix 11 Cerberus (testing build doc, forum activity, and more)
 • Whonix 12 troubadour (apparmor profiles and more)
 • MrSponsor, if interested as well comes somewhere in between.
 • Whonix 13 HulaHoop (KVM and more)

Hmm. I was thinking that the debian logo would be a charming homage to the technology we build upon, as well as remind users “Whonix is just debian+tor+config scripts”. However, your precaution is justified.

How about this: We use the dark blue (no logo) and a dark metal grey by the same author → http://malkowitch.deviantart.com/art/Minimalist-Metal-Wallpaper-335976052

If Hula has a preference about which color should be WS and which GW, I’d be honored to defer to his taste. If not, blue for WS; grey (the “blander, boring” color) for GW.

I support Jason’s suggestions.

Maybe it would be better if the left sides were a little bit brighter but really cool wallpapers

I am okay with the picture, but licensing fails here. From that page in comments section:

I don't mind using it at any way except selling as stock.

Which is a non-Free term.

It’s a bit cynical to talk about licenses for single colored wallpapers, no? Anyhow. I could be ignorant, but recreating such a one colored wallpaper and donating to the public domain should not be that hard? Anyone volunteer?

Hrm. I was positive that all his stuff was CC.
If you decide to go with this wallpaper, I’m certain I can get CC license from him.

New wallpapers to be first shipped in Whonix 10?

Have you talked about CC with the author, Jason?

Going the more paranoid way now:

Has ioerror commented on this HulaHoop?

If the problem is EXIF, we just strip the EXIF.
