Vpn on the host: no connection in KVM vms

Hi there
If I don’t use vpn on my host vm works perfectly while with vpn there isn’t connection (whonix and any other OS).
How do you explain this?

Regards

Good day,

hard to tell, such things are strongly deependend on the VPN provider you use, as well as the VPN implementation used. What standard are you using? What host OS do you use. Such a question is rather hard to answer and not really Whonix specific.

Furthermore, moved this topic, fits better as such a question isn’t specific to KVM.

Have a nice day,

Hi
I know it is hard to tell :innocent:, mullvad is the vpn, debian the OS.
I exclude vpn as the possible cause. I use it on ubuntu with virtualbox and haven’t problems, then remain two subjects: Debian or KVM. To exclude also the first I have to try debian+virtualbox and see if it works.
I’ll update the topic ASAP

Good day,

what standard (OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, etc.) are you using?

Hi
Openvpn
Update: with virtualbox works well
I don’t know if it is important but only when start whonix in kvm with vpn shows a line during the load: ‘‘a start job is running for LSB: Raise network interface’’ and take more than 1 minute

Nobody can help me?

Please be more precise about what works and what doesn’t.

  • VPN on Host works? Meaning you can access websites from browser on host.

If yes,

  1. Internet is accessible from Debian VirtualBox VM?
  2. Internet is accessible from Whonix Gateway VirtualBox VM? (whonixcheck)
  3. Internet is accessible from Debian KVM VM?
  4. Internet is accessible from Whonix Gateway KVM VM?
