VPN after Tor / VPN Tunnel in Whonix

Hello everyone,

I’m relatively new to Whonix and currently working on setting up a VPN tunnel after tor (Tor over VPN). My primary goal is to mitigate the issue of clearnet sites blocking Tor exit nodes by routing traffic through a VPN endpoint.

I’ve followed the instructions from a guide in the docs called ‘Connecting to Tor before a VPN’ , but I ran into difficulties — it seems to be somewhat outdated. Before I dive deeper into trial and error, I wanted to ask the community:

• Is there a more up-to-date method or recommended configuration for implementing a VPN tunnel after Tor in Whonix?

• Is there any other method for archivieng my goal?

Any insights, updated documentation, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately this issue is not Whonix-specific: Even if you manage to successfully configure a VPN within Qubes-Whonix, your VPN may still be detected and blocked: The VPN may work If the IP address range is provisioned from a residential ISP. The Tor Project team has also acknowledged geo-blocking issues in the past: However, ephemeral exit bridges for Tor (EEBT) and exit bridge Onion Services (HebTor) do not seem to be a significant priority at this point in time.
