As this is not a Whonix specific issue, I’d suggest looking for a solution in VBox specific forums. Furthermore, attempting a fresh install might be a good start.

Someone had a similar issue lately.
They simply reinstalled Virtualbox, updated to the latest version, or increased available RAM for the VM (can’t remember which) and it fixed their problem.
