I plan to download the templates for whonix-18 and then configuring my existing AppVMs (sys-whonix and anon-whonix) to use the new template, instead of version 17.
I just wanted to check if this is fine and I don’t need to recreate the AppVMs.

Generally it’s fine to swap from one template to another, but be warned that the UIDs for some of the system users are not exactly the same between Whonix 17 and Whonix 18. If you have any system-level paths diverted to /rw in your AppVMs, those AppVMs may break. I think this is the only real gotcha, and most people don’t break out system-level paths into /rw to my awareness, so this probably isn’t a concern.
