Upgrading question

I have Whonix-XFCE-15.0.0.3.3 and the current version is Whonix-XFCE-15.0.0.4.9. What is the best way to upgrade: downloading the current virtualbox image, or upgrading by running ‘sudo apt update & apt dist-upgrade’?

Up to you. Since this is a point release and not a release upgrade (these terms are defined in Whonix wiki), both is relativity easy.

So, point release is Whonix-XFCE-15 which i can upgrade with ‘sudo apt update & apt dist-upgrade’, and Whonix-XFCE-16 will be release upgrade which i have to upgrade by downloading the virtualbox image? Am i understanding this correctly?

Yes.
