Since vmware only works with Live mode and the disk are read-only, i cant update/upgrade the packages of whonix gateway. How can i update my packages?

Not having persistence is the root issue.
By fixing the root issue. By fixing persistence, package upgrades would become simple as per Operating System Software and Updates (Whonix is based on Kicksecure.)
