Ubuntu APT not working through whonix gateway

Hello, I am newish to whonix and am trying to dev a whonix workstation out of a default ubuntu build. I am currently able to route through whonix gateway, but whenever I try to run apt update it 404s. I am currently running 18.04 LTS. Any help would be much appreciated.

Are non-APT connections working?

Yes I followed the guide. Other connections work just fine. The only problems I have is with using APT

Possibilities:

  • apt sources list is wrong?
  • Ubuntu apt servers (are hosted somewhere that automatically due to some protection policy) block Tor?

try Trisquel or any ubuntu similar or based on and check if this applies as well.
