Troubles with Win 10 v1703

Hi.
OS Win 10 Pro x64 1703 v 15036.296
I try to install whonix on my laptop with latest update that i download but i can’t run it because virtualbox not starting its just drop… i tried to install virtualbox separate but it crash system
before i used Win 10 Pro 1607 and no bugs.

Good day,

Did you use the Whonix Installer for Windows or did you install everything manually? Also, what kind of “crash” do you experience?

Have a nice day,

Ego

I did all as before
I download Whonix ™ for Windows, macOS, Linux inside VirtualBox

Then i tried to install by default
i got 2 links on desktop

Whonix for Windows.lnk
Oracle VM VirtualBox.lnk

first one can lauch but after i press “Start Whonix” nothing happens
second one not works

after update VirtualBox manually its crash system… BSOD

every step i start with administrator full access

where i can download old version on Whonix? i want to try with old one

Good day,

How did you “update Virtualbox manually”? As this sound likely to be an external problem with VBox.

If VBox crashes on your host and causes a BSOD there, that is not related to Whonix and an older version wouldn’t help.

Which version of VBox is currently installed? How did you upgrade to the newest version? Did you verify said update?

Have a nice day,

Ego

just checked on another laptop with clear system and latest updates troble with virtualbox…
BSOD again… i tried to use just only whonix installer and also download *.ova files separately from here…

so how to fix i don’t know… sad… maybe possible to give link to old version ?

We don’t offer old versions. These are discouraged, unsupported.

sad.
so how we do about my problem ?

I also don’t think using old versions would fix it. And if it did, it would not be an appropriate solution.

Dunno if @Ego or someone else will have any ideas how to solve this. I certainly won’t. Either you’d need to sort out your issue as per Free Support for Whonix ™ by contacting VirtualBox and or Microsoft staff.

Or by switching to Qubes and Qubes-Whonix or Linux since Windows is not the most secure choice anyhow to say the least. Reference:

Good day,

Just went through your logs a few times, Finally found the error, “1073741819” to be specific. Is related to a faulty Windows installation.

Quote:

There are lots of “Lacks WinVerifyTrust” posts in the log pointing to common Windows files. I think that means your physical PC has one or more Windows Updates that have damaged the authenticity certificate database that the OS keeps. Virtualbox uses these certificates to check if the files are not hacked before VB allows the files to influence VB. Since the Windows Updates have damaged the database, VB can’t know if the files are good and so won’t run.

Another known potential reason is that certain AV software restricts access to specific DLL files necessary for the VM.

Quote:

The problem is not the virus scanning engine but the habit of virus scanners to map certain DLLs into Windows processes. VirtualBox 4.3.14 has extended hardening features which may conflict with virus scanners. We did several tests but obviously didn’t catch every case. The final 4.3.14 release contains more fixes in this regards but I’ve read in other topics that certain users have still problems :frowning:

Source: #13187 (VirtualBox 4.3.14 can't start VMs on certain Windows hosts) – Oracle VM VirtualBox

In either case, this has over the years been a continuous problem, experienced by VBox users. Is however neither a fault with VBox, nor Whonix.

Have a nice day,

Ego

Hey guys i solve problem.

i found in torrents Whonix-12.0.0.3.2 and it works !!!

That version is discouraged and unsupported.

I am also on Windows 10 v1703 and I have the same issue.

Not a problem with OS or Virtualbox files like you claimed… Since Virtualbox independent installation works flawlessly however the Whonix Installer will succeed installation & then won’t launch.

Good day,

That would be a different issue, as OP and everyone else in this thread has been talking about BSOD scenarios, not simple installer issues. First and foremost, did you verify the installer in its entirety?

Have a nice day,

Ego

Yes I did, however still not working right after install.
