Tor/Default browser for Whonix is not Executable. (Kali Linux Host)

Recently installed whonix for virtual box, Kali Linux is the host OS. Virtual box was already installed and I used the commands from whonix website for debian to install whonix within virtual box successfully. After booting up both the workstation and the gateway I got a notification with an error stating that I need to update debian packages with dist -upgrade. After updating and making a snapshots of both the gateway and workstation (just in case), I decided to open the default browser. Upon opening I get an immediate error with a box that says:

" Failed to execute default browser" “Input/output error”

Along with another popup box that states :

" Neither /home/user/.tb/tor-browser/Broswer/start-tor-browser nor /home/user/.tb/tor-browser/star-tor-browser nor /home/user/.tb/tor-browser/start-tor-browser.desktop is executable " My only option is OK.

This happens every time I try to open the default browser. I could install firefox or brave, but I’d prefer to use the default browser since it is the Tor Browser.

Any Suggestions or Tips would be greatly appreciated as I want to start using whonix but I need help with this.

These are “strange issues” which are not happening for any users using Debian stable as their host operating system. I have a guess what could be the cause… See this:

Apply General VirtualBox Troubleshooting Steps.

(Whonix is based on Kicksecure.)

Kali rolling? Then that could be because a too new kernel version that is not yet compatible with VirtualBox.

A kernel version not yet compatible with VirtualBox is known to cause a lot “strange issues”, elaborated here:

Resolution found. Reinstalled the Tor browser through the GUI of Whonix
Start Menu → Applications → System → Tor Browser Downloader (Whonix)
Tor opens with no issues. Thank you for the Assistance !
