Tor browser install - Error: Hash could NOT be verified

** Disclaimer: this thread may have the wrong title and/or may address 2 different problems **

I’m trying to start experimenting with Whonix, but I can’t seem to be able to do the initial step of installing Tor Browser.
When I start the updater, it downloads for a very long time and then I get an error message:

ERROR: Hash could NOT be verified. (tb_sha_exit_code: 1)
Tor Browser update failed! Try again later.

I’m not sure why this is happening, and even if the message talks about a hash that could not be verified, I guess this might be due to a failed connection. When I try ping, I get nothing but the first line, and if i stop it the message is “(n) number transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss”.
Nevertheless, whonixcheck doesn’t give back any error.

If I try using Virtualbox with Debian Jessie, I manage to connect to the internet.

Ping won’t work as expected, is unsupported by the Tor network (does not support UDP / ICMP).

tb-updater, could be a transient issue. Please try again.

I’ve installed it manually and I’m finally able to access this forum from Whonix.
