Sys-Whonix Should Open Anon Connection Wizard on Fresh Qubes OS Install

After a fresh installation of Qubes OS, the sys-whonix domain automatically starts connecting to Tor and displays the Tor Bootstrap test. However, this behavior bypasses an important user choice.

On the first startup after a fresh install, sys-whonix should instead launch the Anon Connection Wizard. This would allow users to decide whether they want to connect to Tor directly or perform additional configuration, such as setting up bridges. The current default setup forces a direct Tor connection, preventing users who prefer not to connect without bridges from configuring them at the initial startup.

Will not be implemented.

Reason: Insufficient (none) complaints when connect to public Tor network by default / avoid Anon Connection Wizard (ACW) popup at first boot was planned. (Even after release.)

I’m having trouble understanding this statement:

Once there is component_whonix-host there would be two ACW popups. Once on Whonix-Host to configure Tor on the host and yet another one, fully independent in Whonix-Gateway doing the same.

Could you clarify what “Whonix-Host” refers to in this context?

Additionally, I don’t understand where two ACW popups would appear?

  • host +
  • gateway
