Should the Gateway or Workstation be setup with more computer resources, and at what ration for each item?

Say I have 16GB RAM and an Intel i7. Should I apply more resources, such as RAM (base memory), processors, and video memory, to the Gateway or Workstation? Which one requires more resources, and could the type of usage change that answer? Which setting is best for normal browsing and which is best for intensive operations, for example?
