Shared Folder - Live Mode

Followed the instructions here - /wiki/KVM#non-qubes-whonix

Shared folder still has README suggesting it’s not been configured, and although I can write from Live mode, it’s not persistent. let me know if you need any logs please.

note - this file didn’t exist so I created one with the suggested content

/usr/lib/systemd/system/mnt-shared-kvm.service.d/50_user.conf

[Unit]
ConditionKernelCommandLine=

Ideally need to save there, or a 2nd virtual drive, while in live mode. Im sure I could mount a 2nd drive persistently in previous versions.

Live mode is brilliant for security, but you are very limited if there’s no area to save! (I understand live should mean live, however the main benefits for me are the os not saving changes)

Prerequisite exercise: Can you use the shared folder in persistent mode?

Thanks for replying Patrick.

Yes I can save there from persistent session (README still visible) and it’s there after a reboot.

Ignore the readme.

Can you successfully exchange files between host and VM?

Yes - just tested using virtiofs

Persistent - files are saved

Live - still amnesic

To attempt to debug…

Check:

daemon name:

mnt-shared-kvm.service

REMOVED - no longer needed

Ignore me, I’m being an idiot.

I assumed the shared folder was a local folder accessible between the persistent and live sessions.

I did not see this section before the one I quoted - /wiki/KVM#Shared_Folders

all is well. thanks for your time and all the work you put in.
