Safest method to access full XMR blockchain on external SSD?

So let me first my stating my setup and what I’m trying to achieve.

  • I have Debian 12 GNOME installed as the host OS (Not using Qubes)
  • I have Whonix gateway and workstation setup in VirtualBox
  • I used a Debian Live CD to download to whole Monero blockchain to a brand new Samsung external SSD.

What I’m trying to achieve is using my external Samsung SSD for a local full node with Whonix workstation with the safety of Tor (Whonix workstation).
Having the full blockchain means faster sync and Dandelion ++ is used for broadcasting transactions which is also my reasoning for this setup.

I read the Whonix wiki page about file transfer in relation to how to Add a USB Device to VirtualBox. However it states:

This procedure is not recommended for security reasons. [5]

So is this method ok or is there a better or safer method I should use for my use case?

Shared folder might work.

Do I need to install vm-config-dist on whonix gateway or should I just follow?:

Documentation for this topic:

  • is complete as is.
  • doesn’t mention installation of vm-config-dist.
  • doesn’t mention Whonix-Gateway.

Ok, I failed to mention on my Debian 12 GNOME I did add the Kicksecure repository so I could install whonix-xfce-installer-cli and some other packages like sdwdate.
