qTox and OnionShare disapeared

Hi,

qTox and OnionShare used to be in the list of available applications in Qubes settings but now they are gone.

Did an update remove them?

The Tox recommendation was removed for security reasons, see: http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbeyds25rbsgr73tbfpqpt4a6vjwsyd.onion/wiki/Chat#Tox

The OnionShare version in Debian 10 is unsafe due to reliance on v2 onions. This will be revisited when the next Whonix version using Debian 11 is released, since that Debian OnionShare version supports v3 onions.

In the meantime, you can follow the available instructions to install the Flatpak OnionShare version in Qubes-Whonix:

http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbeyds25rbsgr73tbfpqpt4a6vjwsyd.onion/wiki/OnionShare#Flatpak_OnionShare_Installation

Also re: applications not appearing in AppVM menus (as a side issue):

Redirecting…

Refresh the Applications list for the AppVM. In the Qubes Menu for the AppVM* launch the Qube Settings. Then go to the Applications tab and click “Refresh Applications”

Okay thanks.

Why does it say that " qtox is no longer installed by default due to security issues." when it was included in the version I just installed ?

I’m running Whonix-ws-15 and Qubes-R4.0.4.

because the security issues when reported kept ignored and not fixed until now, thus removed.
