Small change, big difference:
Tor vs Proxy: Difference between revisions - Whonix

However, it seems our stance on/documentation/support for proxies should be simply: Don’t use them. They’re bad. You don’t need them with Whonix. We don’t support them. They’re stupid. Bad idea. Don’t use them.

Well, it depends what one wants to do with them.

For using proxies instead of Tor/Whonix, the simple version of the comparison could indeed just say, “the short answer is, recommended against, forget about them”. The technical details could be buried below an “expand” button (we already got quite some expand buttons (example)). The technical details are important for those who still believe their myths (“I am behind 10 proxies, so what.”) and don’t trust the short explanation without further explanations and references.

user → proxy → Tor → destination: If it helps someone circumvent ISP Tor bans and they understand the details, why not.

user → Tor → proxy → destination: If it helps someone reach a website the banned whole Tor and thy understand the details, why not.

We can consider to deter more users adding a “advanced users only” warning box.
