I’ve done some tests. In the subsection “Configuration for use of Tor Browser with a HTTP, HTTPS or SOCKS proxy using proxy settings method” in whonix wiki, archived method works fine for socks4/socks5 proxies, but HTTP/HTTPS proxies does not work.
