Problem understanding instructions for using user-sysmaint-split in whonix VMs on Qubes 4.3

I use Qubes 4.3 and run Whonix virtual machines in it.
I’m at the stage of reading about the new user-sysmaint-split feature in Whonix. And I’m having trouble understanding the Power-off and Power-on Cycle Method which is at this link:

My understanding is that this method applies to kicksecure, which acts as the host operating system. It does not apply to my use case (Whonix VMs in Qubes). I should use the method that is at this link:

(I give an example for Appvm, but I should do the same if I want to change the boot mode for a template)
In short, I should:

1 Shutdown Appvm (if Appvm is running)
2 Change boot mode
3 Start appvm

In my use case (Whonix VMs in Qubes) I don’t need to shut down the entire Qubes system to change the boot mode for Appvm/Template.

Is my reasoning correct?

That is correct. We should probably link the Qubes instructions in the “safely use root instructions” page to reduce confusion there.

Yes, the steps you outline above are how the feature is intended to be used.

Right. No need at all to shutdown the host operating system.

With Power-off and Power-on Cycle Method you only need to shutdown the current context you’re using. Which means, if you’re using a VM, shutdown and restart the VM.

Power-off and Power-on Cycle Method quote:

3 See Usage.

There instructions there are specifically tailored for Qubes (after clicking on Kicksecure for Qubes).
