A newbie here. I’m getting some errors in whonix. How can I export the output to a file that I can read outside of virtual box.

There is no great answer to this. Best we got is File Transfer - Whonix and https://www.whonix.org/wiki/VirtualBox_Guest_Additions (clipboard sharing).
Or using the host to make screenshots would work as well.
