New theme / mediawiki skin(s) for Kicksecure documentation

GSoD 2019 project

Since Kicksecure documentation will need to be identifiable from Whonix documentation a new theme will be found that will have a different theme and /or color palette.

Since it will affect how the Kicksecure wiki is formated. It think it would be better to come up with a theme right away. This way fortatting can be done as we go . Otherwise we will have to go back and reformat everything correctly which will be a waste of the limited amount time we have (GSoD project 3 months). I’ll come up with 5 or 6 selections for tomorrow.

BlueSpice is an exception. Only one or one of very few. It’s too difficult to install. Are careful, it’s freemium as per its homepage? Maybe they have the skin only and standalone but still not sure good idea.

Wasn’t sure if having the skin alone wold be enough. The only themes that really caught my eye (no customization needed) where either deprecatedor supported only earlier Mediawiki versions.

Skin:Pivot - MediaWiki looks clean but geared towards mobile users. Actually i think foreground is still better than most all of skins I looked at.

Have not been able to connect to their download sight right now. (https://mediawikibootstrap.org)

Chameleon looks ok with a change in color. We could even keep the same colors similar a we currently have but just a differnt style.

What do you think about Chameleon?

This caught my attention earlier too. Unfortunately looks abandoned.
Skin:BootStrapSkin - MediaWiki says Release status: unknown and Skin talk:BootStrapSkin - MediaWiki has some discussion.

Default config looks ok, some customized example websites using look very good. Could use.

Should I install?

Chameleon - Skin:Chameleon - MediaWiki

Default Chameleon outlook isn’t breath taking. (Yes, I am allowed to contradict what I might have said a year ago. Either what I saw back then changed (version 1 vs version 2) or my taste changed.)

There is a list of live examples:

One Chameleon customized skin I like is secret-wiki.de.
(I didn’t read actual contents. This is about the skin, layout elements only.)

Notes:

  • Probably a bit too much white space left and right for the content but this surely can be fixed.
  • No visible wiki edit elements at all. While I like the page to be content focused it’s good to have edit features accessible in background, in a decent, non-intrusive way.

Also physio-pedia.com has a professionally looking wiki main page:
