Macchanger breaks TOR in Whonix?

Does macchanger breaks Whonix TOR connection? If I don’t use macchanger then I can access hidden service I hosted on Whonix. If I use macchanger then it completely breaks the TOR connection and it requires a system reboot.

Let me know.

MAC documentation:

Any MAC changing has to be done on the host. If host internet works, Whonix should work as well, because Whonix doesn’t really know what kind of host internet connection you have as long it’s working.

So I should use macchanger on Workstation instead of Gateway, no? Is that what you’re implying?

Not at all. Changing mac has little to do with Whonix VMs. You can mostly act as if you don’t have them. MAC address setup is mainly to be configured on the host.

MAC addresses inside Whonix VMs are much less important. (Mentioned on this page https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Protocol-Leak-Protection_and_Fingerprinting-Protection.)

Ok, thanks!

So we need to change it on the host and leave it alone on the Whonix Vms, isnt it?

Or change either host’s and Whonix’s Vms mac addresses all togheter?

Thank you Patrick

The much more important one is the host’s one.

Much less important, very subtle, if any real world effects, are the ones inside VMs.
