Hello A specific topic. I was looking for a similar one, but I didn’t find one.
I come to you with the topic of installing (not cloning!) many Whonix 17 templates. I need to install the same software several times that gives fingerprint to my vm. I can’t do it in app qube because they share a filesystem with a template. Installing one copy of the program in the app qube (or template) prevents installation in other app qube on the same template (or its clone). I just need a new workstation. The new app qubes whonix 17 workstation (created on the new whonix 17 workstation template) will be connected to the old sys-whonix. I will remove the new whonix 17 gateway template (I don’t need it)
And now the questions:
1 Will something bad happen if I install multiple templates Whonix 17 (and delete their templates whonix 17 gateways)?
2 If my update proxy is sys-whonix (all templates get updates via sys whonix) will the new Whonix 17 template also be updated via sys-whonix?
3 If I create an app qube with netvm-sys whonix on the new Whonix 17 template, will the CHECK for new updates be done by sys-whonix?
4 Do I need to do anything extra after installing the template? (just install it)?
I would like to point out that I need many such new templates…
This is primarily a Qubes question. I suggest to rephrase this question to make it unspecific to Whonix.
installing (not cloning!) many Debian (or Fedora. templates.
Then you can redirect this question to Qubes support.
I don’t think this is possible. Qubes has no concept of “install the Template multiple times” as far as I know. The closest thing you could do is probably:
This is not entirely true. If the program is not installed in the template, then installing it in one app qube does not preclude installing it in other app qubes based on the same template. It’s just that the installed program probably won’t persist across app qube reboots. It sounds like you might want to just use standalones instead.
