Platform-specific Desktop Tips and RAM Adjusted Desktop Starter (rads) both say minimum RAM for Whonix-Gateway-Xfce can be set to 256 MB, but after testing up to 320 MB I get random system freezes. 384 MB seems stable
preferable even for GW to not run it even with 500mb, better to give it 2GB (unless you are having low resources case).
you are using vbox or kvm?

This is for VirtualBox, on Whonix-Gateway-Xfce 17.4.4.6 fully upgraded. It makes no sense to me to give it more RAM than needed for daily use, as all it does it route connections. When upgrading, I give it 1280 MB
Make sense or not thats based on the development approach and related sanity, maybe one day the decision made that there is no cli anymore because cli doesnt make any sense anymore, so you have to deal with any taken changes.
So RAMs before 5-10 years made sense to be x, now y tomorrow z. It is what it is.
