when i click on the rar files the native file unzipper says it cant unzip them can i install something that can?
Hi username2
Do you have the rar
package installed on your system?
To check.
In Whonix-Workstation konsole, run.
rar
If the package is installed on your sytsem, there should be a listing on how to use rar
.
If the package is not installed you can use the APT package manager to install the package.
In Whonix-Workstation konsole, run.
sudo apt-get install rar
i tried that to install rar but it finishes with “E: unable to locate package rar”
Hi username2
There was a previous user that was unable to install rar
.
rar
is only available from non-free. (I am able to install rar
in Qubes-Whonix 14)
https://packages.debian.org/stretch/rar
However, you should avoid non-free packages:
https://whonix.org/wiki/Warning#Avoid_Non-free_Software
This can be sorted out as per:https://whonix.org/wiki/Support#Free_Support_Principle
1. Check if you have non-free added to your sources.list
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
The output should be something like this (Whonix 14)
deb tor+http://sgvtcaew4bxjd7ln.onion stretch/updates main contrib non-free
2. If non-free is not added, search “how to add non-free to debian sources list”
Try unar or other similar free software alternatives.
unrar
is also in nonfree.
Okay so i checked and it is installed but when i click a .rar it doesnt open or ask for password it just gives an error
