Edit/Improve Documentation

Hey there. I’m a long time user with some programming and writing skills, and I want to help improve the documentation. The Contribute to Whonix page says to simply edit pages for minor tweaks, but when I do so it says “You do not have permission to edit this page.” Is there a way I could get permission?

Speaking of things to edit, the Email Overview page has references to Engimail with Thunderbird that seem to be several years old. I think they’re worth removing to simplify the documentation.

Unfortunately we had to lock all pages to admin-editable only for security reasons (can’t elaborate much more yet but more details may be released in the future, however there was no malicious compromise of the website). We have plans for making it possible to contribute to the documentation more directly in the future, but those will take some time to work out.

In the meantime, you could take the “patch mail” route; copy the Mediawiki source of a page you want to edit into a text file, make a copy of it, edit the copy, then create a unified diff of the changes you made. Post a link to the page you want to edit followed by the changes you wish to submit, and someone with Wiki editing powers can review and apply the changes. If this ends up being necessary for a while, maybe we’ll need a “wiki improvement thread” here… maybe this can be the start of it…

That makes sense - thanks for letting me know. I’ll likely do that second option. If there’s any specific pages you think really need work, I’d be happy to help.
