double ethernet in whonix gateway ?

i just wanted to ask what is the use of eth0 and eth1 both of them existing and working inside whonix-gateway ? (vbox version)

has something with anonymity or what?

(GW IPv4)

  • eth0

address

10.152…152.10

netmask

255.255.255.0

gateway

10.0.2.2

  • eth1

address

10.152.152.10

netmask

255.255.192.2.0

gateway

0.0.0.0

while in WS there is only one which is eth0:-

address

10.152.152.11

netmask

255.255.192.0

gateway

10.152.152.10

also is cloning the mac address useful in whonix ?

If you look at VM Settings for Whonix Gateway in VirtualBox, you’ll see 2 network adapters - one connected to VBox’s NAT router, and one connected to Internal Network ‘Whonix’. eth0 connects to Tor eventually & eth1 connects to Whonix Workstation.

Internet — Host Network Adapter — VBox NAT — eth0 - Whonix GW - eth1 — Whonix WS
