Configure non-TorBrowser

#1

I’m trying to configure Firefox to use Tor.

My ultimate goal is to use Facebook from within Whonix. (I know this violates several recommendations, but I’m trying to separate my Facebook existence from all of my other online existences.)

I can access the Facebook .onion site (https://facebookcorewwwi.onion/) just fine from within the Tor Browser, but I can’t get the FB Purity extension to work from within TBB. (I’ve fiddled with the various settings via TorButton, but it has no effect.)

I tried to connect to the Facebook .onion site from regular Firefox, but it can’t access it. That tells me that I have to configure something in regular Firefox that tells it where to look for .onion sites.

I’m running the latest version of Qubes (3.2) and the ESR version of Firefox (45.6.0). This is all inside the Whonix VM, of course.

Good day,

Setting “network.dns.blockDotOnion” in about:config to false should make it work.

Like you’ve already mentioned, using Firefox is discouraged though.

Have a nice day,

Ego

Thanks, Ego. That’s exactly what I was looking for.
