Change the countries of TOR circuit

Two simple questions:

  1. How can we see in the gateway the exactly tor nodes used in the circuit like in the button available in tor browser?
  2. Is possible to exclude some countries we don’t want to use in the different circuits of the gateway? After the possibility of governments controlling a very much of the guard and exit nodes to make timing analysis.

Unspecific to Whonix. Did you check Tor’s documentation? You might also consider asking in the Tor Project’s forums or Matrix rooms.

sudo nano /etc/tor/torrc

Add

ExcludeNodes {country code},{country code}

ExcludeExitNodes {country code},{country code}

Do a search for “Exclude Exit Node in Tor” and something should come up.

Also, this is supposedly a terrible security practice because anyone sophisticated is going to have a much easier time tracking you because you’ll be different.

There is also nothing to stop 5 Eye Countries or 14 Eyes Countries from buying a server in another country and setting up a Tor Node.

You are right, but I prefer to use servers out of 5 Eye countries though they could rent servers outside his borders
