Autostart System Maintenance Panel on Whonix-Gateway?

Would it be a good idea to autostart System Maintenance Panel on Whonix-Gateway?

I got that idea while booting Whonix-Workstation into sysmaint mode for updates, booting Whonix-Gateway desktop (without user-sysmaint-split installed) remained “empty”. System Maintenance Panel had to be manually started.

This might encourage novice users to update who otherwise have no idea that updates should be installed. (Although Update Notifications by updatecheck should help with that nowadays.)

Platform specific.

  • Non-Qubes-Whonix: Maybe, yes.
  • Qubes-Whonix: Probably, no. (Because then System Maintenance Panel would always pop up even if just only starting the Template (such as when started by Qubes Updater.))

The only thing I can think of that might make this undesirable is being presented with all the features of the system maintenance panel might be a bit daunting for a new user. I don’t think that’s a big concern though (the Control Panel in Windows has many more buttons, and users work with that just fine).

I’ve implemented this in anon-gw-base-files, since I think including Whonix-Gateway-specific code in the sysmaint-panel package would probably be undesirable.
