Are libnetfilter and iptables no longer required?

I updated Whonix-Gateway through upgrade-nonroot and I noticed that the packages iptables and libnetfilter were selected for autoremove. Is it real? Are they no longer required? Is it safe to sudo apt autoremove?

Yes, it should be safe to sudo apt autoremove.
