Hi! The program stops responding when I press “Next” at the “Summary” stage (after I paste bridges and skip Local Proxy Configuration), not even reaching the bootstrap phase.
When I get to the Summary stage, a message pops up for a moment and disappears: “Authentication is required for anon-connection wizard writing Tor configuration. An application is attempting to pperform an action that requires privileges. Authentication is required to perform this action”.
This happened before from time to time, now it happens always, whether I kill and restart Anon Connection Wizard, restart the VM, paste other bridges or no bridges - anyway.
Sorry if I forgot some info. Any tips?
Do you mean “manual bridge configuration”, as told in the article you linked to? It recommends editing 50_user.conf file, then running ACW, which contradicts your 1st recommendation. I tried anyway, ACW just returned “Tor failed to (re)start” with error code 1. Didn’t find in the article any method avoiding ACW, looks like I misunderstood you.
Pretend as if ACW never existed. Configured / restart Tor manually.
Thanks, it worked! Did I get it right, it’s not a problem on my side, ACW is generally not advised unless some bugs are fixed?
You’re the only user who reported an ACW bug in this release that I can remember.
For anyone else, seems to work.
Not worthwhile to dig deeper. The related code for priviledge escalation has already been replaced in the development version and it’s not security relevant.
