After updating the main OS, KVM Whonix virtual machines stopped working

Hello, please help with the problem, solving the problem will help both me and other people. After upgrading my main OS to Linux Debian, my virtual machines stopped starting:

Error starting domain: Cannot access storage file : /home/user/Whonix-Gateway.qcow2

Even before I started doing something, I wanted to make a backup copy of virtual machines, I tried to copy

I use KVM virt manager

Whonix disks qcow2 to a flash drive, but it gives me an error I was using an old version of Whonix, I wanted to upgrade to the new one, but this problem occurred.

/home/user is an unconventional storage location that can cause issues.

This issue is unspecific to Whonix.

This issue would also happen if using any other guest operating system (such as Debian) inside the VM.

Unfortunately, I never solved my problem. Maybe it’s the kvm version, maybe it should be rolled back to an older version?

My VM have always worked from this path /home/user I changed the configuration in the xml file. I just updated the main OS and the machines stopped turning on. Before trying anything else, I would like to make a copy of my discs, but they don’t want to be copied, why?

If you do non-standard stuff, despite documentation, you’re on your own.

I can’t have problems with my hard drive and stuff I just updated the guest OS and after that the Whonix virtual disks on kvm do not start, error in access, all libvirt accesses and stuff I checked What’s very strange is that I can’t even copy VM images to my hard drives Please tell me how it will be possible to solve the problem when copying discs?

Try: Testing with a Debian VM

It’s a host operating system issue. Not a Whonix issue. Wrong forum.
