Whonix sound issues

I customer I am supporting running whonix on Windows 10 is having sound issues. He gets no sound, even though everything looks correctly. He claims to have had sounds before doing the updates. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?

the error he is getting is:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1022:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:722: audio open error: No such file or directory
