I know @Patrick says aptitude is unsupported, but aptitude will tell you what is breaking what, and will give you different options on how to fix it. I am not sure what everyone’s obsession with apt is.

sudo aptitude dist-upgrade  

will likely give you better information

Result…

sudo: aptitude: command not found

and under root

Could not find the database of available applications, run update-command-not-found as root to fix this

You first need to install aptitude if you want to use it IMAO.
