Hello, i have a very strong computer and very good internet that have a 1000mpbs upload and download speed and i am daily user of Whonix and i realized because of tor speed its whonix internet is slow and in my mind this idea came up, what happend’s if i open 3 whonix gateway and 3 workstation in same time because my specs are enough for these and results are really bad i don’t know why but always speed is same like its get divided lets assume normally i am getting 1000kb download speed on Whonix workstation when only 1 gateway and workstation are active when i am opening 3 gateway and 3 workstation total speed is 1500kb why is like that ?
It could just be random chance. Tor nodes are run by volunteers, and some of those volunteers have slow Internet connections. Sometimes my download speed over Tor for OS updates is 2 megabytes (not bits, bytes) per second, which is quite good, other times it’s 100 kilobytes per second or worse. It depends on what nodes the algorithms in Tor select and the resources they have at any given time.
It’s also possible all three workstations are using the same gateway. Unless you did some special configuration, that can happen. Make sure each workstation is configured to connect to its own gateway.

Thank you mate, i checked their IP addresses and i think they are not using same gateway and as you said sometimes its fast sometimes slow maybe that’s the reason.

running more gateways wont give you more bandwidth, your speed is capped by the circuit not your hardware. i tried the same thing on a box with fast fiber and it barely changed anything. sometimes you just get a slow relay in the middle and theres not much to do except make a new circuit and hope for better.

Thanks for your replay buddy but if i run 2 gateway and 2 workstation and lets assume i wanna download 2 file each one of them is 5gb i can download both of them in same time with 2 gateway i think it can make faster at least on the paper but maybe not work on the reality.
The idea @ashleyalen has (I think) is that multiple gateways = multiple Tor instances = multiple circuits, so they should be able to get a speed equal to the sum of all circuits (assuming their Internet connection supports it). I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work, but if all gateways get slow circuits, it won’t have the desired effect.

Exactly and i tested it worked.
I was slightly confused when I wrote the above; a single Tor instance can route traffic through many different circuits at once, so I’m not sure there is any practical speedup to doing this. Downloading multiple things at once when using a single workstation and gateway should have the same or similar effect.

how can it route many different circuits at once ? even after worked, running a multiple gateway’s still my method uses so much resources.
