OS doesnt boot stuck at black screen

Ubuntu uses virtualbox version 5.2.34 from the multiverse repository. You have to use at least a 6.0.x version otherwise Whonix will not boot. An option is to do as TNT said and add Debian’s repository and use that version
Reason: Guest addition version conflict
Completely uninstall your current virtualbox and then install the Debian Virtualbox instead. Then you will be able to use Whonix

Mixing Ubuntu with Debian sid repository could lead to a disaster. If anything, a newer Ubuntu repository if it contains a newer version of VirtualBox.

Another option:
Install Newer Versions of VirtualBox

Downloaded: Virtualbox version 6.0.14 from Oracle/Virtualbox website

Hello, I had the same problem with ubuntu 18.04 LTS. For some reason VirtualBox 5 cannot run whonix properly.

The problem was solved by upgrading to virualbox 6 and now everything works fine.

Hope this helps
