How can I be sure that my Whonix client is actually talking to the Whonix gateway properly? Thanks in advance
AFAIAA a simple whonixcheck would suffice, which is normally run on startup anyways.

If I turned off tor service on the gateway machine. Would Tor stop working on the client. I hate to bug anyone, but I am sure that I am not the first to ask this question.
If by client you mean workstation, yes if gateway is closed or Tor has been stopped, the workstation will have no connection.

Btw please do not accidentally substitute Tor for a question related to Tor Browser, as this causes confusion.

If you have internet connection in Workstation you can run an ip check from there and you will see it does not come back as your ISP or vpn ip adress. If you then go and shut down gateway (or disable Tor from within gateway) you will notice Workstation loses connectvity.
