Inside the whonix gateway under the tor control panel is a button “new identity”.
It doesnt say “you have to close the browser”, it literally says “after this operation tor browser will close all tabs” but it doesnt. Infact nothing happens. How so?
Best to “forget” about this button for now. It’s maybe the worst named button in Whonix. We plan to improve the wording of that button in a future version thanks to you bringing this up. I posted just now in the development forum thread:
