Is it safe to activate USB?

I sometimes have to copy files onto the workstation.
I did this by adding a shared folder.
Copy via virtualbox tools does not work, I do not know why. (Is this deactivated?)

It would be easier if I could just plug a USB stick in and connect it to the workstation.
USB is deactivated by whonix.

Is it safe to activate USB?
