Regarding pidgin + OTR plugin:
How do I find a secure server for private/secure/anonymous chat?

Or is any server suitable for that if only the OTR plugin is used? (guess not…)

Any server is suitable if using OTR. If the server is trustworthy, I’d see this as a bonus.

OTR is long to setup and you should avoid many leaks in case you are noob ( in case ) .
I advise you to use another system to comunicate with others : torchat, gpg on deep or clear with email .
It isn’t the best answer but it’s a valid alternative .
