I’m using KVM and cli for whonix-gateway. When i want to shutdown gateway with “sudo power off” it asks password. Because i’m lazy to type my password every time i need shutdown my gateway i just do Virtual Machine -> Shutdown on virt-manager and power off that way. Is it safe ? Or i must to power off gateway “from inside it” with sudo poweroff ?
If that is signal ACPI shutdown resulting in a graceful shutdown that would be alright.
Doing hard shutdowns has never corrupted anything on the GW in my experience. Both methods are quick anyhow.
