Can't connect to remote SSH server from Workstation

Hi,

I just downloaded Whonix and I didn’t modify anything. I’m trying to:

ssh root@177.177.177.188

And it doesn’t do anything. The SSH client is installed and it’s no firewall on the host machine.

What’s wrong?

Whonix-specific:

  • Is the SSH server located on the public internet? Or on a local network (relative to your workstation)? Might be related to Whonix stream isolation which forces ssh through Tor.

Non-Whonix specific:

  • The firewall on your server is not configured correctly.
  • It’s common practice to disable root logins on SSH servers.
