Suggest Trustworthy Tor Hidden Services as Time Sources for sdwdate

TLDR:

What web servers do you consider trustworthy, to take great care of their visitors’ privacy, that are stable and that get great amounts of traffic, and most important, are reachable over .onion as a Tor Hidden Service?

Ideally, we need to have around ~50 servers.

Post in the comments below.

Long:

In Whonix 10, we want to avoid SSL by using Tor Hidden Services as a time source for sdwdate.

The purpose of this blog post is to ask Whonix users, to suggest suitable web servers.

What web servers do you consider trustworthy, to take great care of their visitors’ privacy, that are stable and that get great amounts of traffic, and most important, are reachable over .onion as a Tor Hidden Service?

(The whole discussion about network time synchronization in anonymity centric distributions is off topic in this thread, but can be found here [link] and you could open separate threads to discuss other aspects.) (Déjà vu?)

A number of ones running Globaleaks

You might want to make a unit test script to run through the addresses so over time you can track dead links and search for a website’s new hidden service address if changed or remove it if defunct.

It makes send to keep comments in the time sync script describing what onion address belongs to what organization or bright net address.

Good suggestions. Done, added all of these individual hidden services. Will also the the globalleaks ones.

Will update the unit test as required and/or time permits.

There are comments that describe which onion is hosted by whom. This and the current list can be seen here:

(Contacted those that had clearnet websites and reported this.)

Still need more!

I want to caution that sometimes hidden sites could be down because of technical maintenance and not because they’ve been shut down. DuckDuckGo is one example.

You might want to run the script about three times over a stretch of a week to confirm.

Other hidden services that come to mind are rise up services and hidden mail providers.

Please let’s try to keep this ticket focused on discussing which Tor hidden services can be used and their trustworthiness. How/when to check them belongs into separate threads.

Add the ones with ports 80 and 443.

Why is it trustworthy?

Add the ones with ports 80 and 443. help.riseup.net/en/tor#riseups-tor-hidden-services
wi7qkxyrdpu5cmvr.onion Austici www.autistici.org/en/stuff/man_anon/tor.html
ic6au7wa3f6naxjq.onion GnuPG Official Site

Done, added:

Zwitterion’s domain is related to the pirate party and digital privacy.

But the domain itself is anonymous? No one known, trustworthy behind it?

They have a bright net address. I haven’t checked the names of people behind it but it should be easy to tell who from whois.

removed hidden services that are down:

pool two: lost 5
